Start of a biomass fueled CHP ( Combined Heat and Power ) demo system.

A biomass CHP system produces heat in the form of hot water ( max 900 C ) as well as electricity using biomass as fuel. The system can work 24/7     7.500 hours per year.

System parameters;

Fuel                       ; Woodchips with max 50 % humidity –wood pellets etc.

Combusting unit;  250 kWt gasifier/combustion chamber

Steam boiler        ;  Water tube type , up till 3000 C 40 bar.

Capacity                ;  190 kWt hot water and max 50 kWe electricity 400 V 50 hz

The electricity is possible to use for own comsumption but also can be sold to the public

grid.  In case of selling electricity to the public grid an inverter is required ( like with solar

panels )

 

Market Segments

Typical users for this type of products are; sawing mills, furniture industry, coffee bean burners, greenhouses etc as well as users in remote area’s.

Note The gasifier combustor can also use all type of waste as fuel (RDF, communinal waste, dried  chicken manure and sewage sludge)

 

Functional System Description

The biomass is burned/gasfied in a burner/gasifier. The ca 10000 C hot flue gas transform water into steam in a high pressure steam boiler ( max 40 bar )

 

The pressurized steam is entering in the first expander, connected to a 30 kW generator.

 

When going out of the first expander the lower temperature steam enters a heat exchanger. ( the round element between the both expanders )This heat exchanger increases the temperature of the steam and because of that its volume increases. ( for efficiency increase and elimination of condense drops )

The heat source is the flue gas after the boiler what now has a temperature of ca 4000 C

 

Than the reheated steam is entering the 2 nd expander also connected to a 30 kW generator.

 

After the 2 nd expander the steam enters the condenser where it changes its phase back into liquid water.

The condenser must be cooled with water. This cooling water is heated and used for heating-drying applications.

 

The vertical heat exchanger on the right side heats the condensed water up to near 1000 C before it returns back to the boiler where it will change its phase into steam again. The fluegas is cooled down till ca 1300 C

 

Before the fluegas is going to the atmosphere through a chimney, a “cyclone” is removing dust parts from the gas.

 

It is a closed loop where the system pressure is defined with a high pressure water pump.

 

The electrical efficiency varies between 10 % and 20 % depending on the pressure and the temperature of the cooling water.

 

The overall cogeneration efficiency of the system is ca 85 %. Only 15 % of the energy is lost through the chimney.

 

Status

Current location: Rome / Italy

The demo unit needs to go into durability test , than being isolated ( thermal and acoustic )  and the automatics have to be programmed. Certified and technical documentation to be written.

 

The total delivery program for this CHP product line will have capacities from 75 kWt / 10 kWe up till 2 MWt / 400 kWe
